Top 5 lessons for Business owners. Celebrating Two Years of TBW.

Reflecting on the second anniversary of This Brand Works, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. When I first founded TBW, I envisioned establishing a consultancy that would empower businesses through simple and easy-to-use branding strategies utilised by superbrands. I wanted to challenge the notion that effective branding was only accessible to larger companies with substantial resources, and instead, offer transformative branding solutions to ambitious businesses with big ideas.

The past two years have been a journey of continuous learning and growth. Here are my top five lessons from two years in business.

1.    Build your Network and Champion Others

I've come to realise the immense value of building and nurturing a strong network. Relationships are the foundation of success in this industry, and I am grateful for the connections I've established over the years. Whether it involves speaking at industry events, engaging in mentorship programs, deepening client relationships, or celebrating others' success. Investing in genuine, authentic connections has been both game-changing, highly rewarding, and a lot of fun!

2.    Hire People Better Than You

Building a great team is essential, and I've been fortunate to work with incredibly talented experts. Collaborating with people who not only possess a proven track record but also align with our values has allowed This Brand Works to deliver exceptional results and value to our clients. Furthermore working with other entrepreneurs and founders has had a wider positive effect across the wider creative sector as a whole.

3.    Manage Imposter Syndrome

Despite experiencing success, imposter syndrome continues to challenge me. It's a common feeling, especially among founders, and it can resurface from time to time. To manage it, I find it helpful to reflect on client testimonials and remind myself of the value I bring to the table.  I also surround myself with supportive peers and mentors who offer guidance, encouragement, and words of wisdom when times are tough.

4.    Get in Front of People... Literally

As a natural extrovert, remote working has presented challenges in building authentic relationships. Whenever possible, I prioritise meeting clients, peers, and prospects face-to-face, even if it means travelling to another country. There is no substitute for reading the energy of a room or sharing war stories over a glass or two of rosé!

5.    Get Comfortable being Uncomfortable.

Real growth occurs when we step out of our comfort zones. Over the past two years, I have repeatedly pushed myself, embraced new opportunities, and faced challenges with determination. Last week I was asked to speak at a conference, my first thought was "Yes of course, but how am I going to fill the slot?... I know I'll moderate a panel of experts!". This week I realised I'm taking the easy way out and have decided to take centre stage.

Building a business is no easy feat, but with hard work, tenacity, and a continuous willingness to learn and grow, it is immensely rewarding to help businesses become the best version of themselves.

As I embark on the next chapter, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. My aim is to create even bigger, better, and bolder brands that people not only want to buy from but also aspire to work with. Building a business is a journey, and I am grateful for the experiences and opportunities that lie ahead.
